Mumming is a masking or masquerade tradition found in several parts of Ireland and some parts of Cornwall… it involves dressing up with a woven rush basket mask to conceal identity and the knocking on doors and singing songs before being invited in or a drink.

I’m fascinated with the world beyond and the interweaving of myth. How folk costumes represent and enact the stories told to keep us protected with a blessed and abundant harvest. Transporting us to the dimensions beyond material , the supernatural, inviting and acting out the beings that can be found there who are represented in the folk costumes of ancient traditions of animist cultures around the world… half person half animal, death or plant spirit, masked and transformed …
