Tschgatta /Death Original Lino Print

£40.00

An original hand printed lino print.
Origins from Pechta the Goddess of the Winter who would reward well behaved children with treats and silver coins or cut open their bellies and stuff them with straw if they hadn’t worked hard enough over the year.

These traditions are closely linked with survival through the winter months, If you hadn’t prepared then winter would take you. The face of Tchsgatta is sometimes a skull representing her link to Death and the otherworld… like a gargoyle for chasing away the Winter to ensure survival in the harsh mountain environments.
I’m fascinated with the world beyond and the interweaving of myth. How folk costumes represent and enact the stories told to keep us protected with a blessed and abundant harvest. Transporting us to the dimensions beyond material , the supernatural, inviting and acting out the beings that can be found there who are represented in the folk costumes of ancient traditions of animist cultures around the world… half person half animal, death or plant spirit, masked and transformed …
